Job Description & Person Specification Catering Assistant Join us – make a difference in our communities County Catering deliver catering services throughout West Sussex as part of the Education and Skills Directorate. We are proud to deliver school meals in special schools, and to support the contract management of primary school meals and Meals on Wheels. We support secondary schools, nurseries, social care and independent schools via our service level agreements. We deliver Food Safety training and bespoke training to our customers to maintain a high standard service. About the job As a catering assistant you will be a valued part of our catering team based at a special school and provide healthy and freshly produced school meals. You will be required to assist in the preparation, cooking, service clearing and cleaning of the catering equipment and kitchen environment within the required standards, ensuring hygiene and safety measures are maintained. You’ll also need to provide written documents in relation to Health & Safety and Food Safety Legislation and business requirements. You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment, providing a quality service within a prescribed timeframe. It’s also an active role – for example you’ll be lifting, moving and handling large equipment frequently. There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public. What you’ll need to succeed You’ll need to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to support pupils with their life skills, and be understanding of the differing needs of young people with special educational needs. You’ll need to be able to work from verbal and written instructions and make minor decisions. You should have a flexible approach to working in order to ensure a high standard service, and a positive approach to working within a team. You should be willing to attend all necessary training to remain up to date with relevant legislation and the organisations policies and procedures. Qualifications and/or experience: • Basic literacy and numeracy skills. • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate. • Prior experience in working in a commercial catering environment. • Experience in dealing with customers, including written and verbal communication. • Experience in working within Health & Safety practices in a commercial setting.
