Job summary Senior Staff/Charge Nurse Intensive Care Unit - STH ICU - Band 6 Are you an experienced intensive care nurse looking for Band 6 role? We would love you to come and join our Critical Care Team at Epsom and St Helier University NHS Hospital. We have vacancies available for motivated and enthusiastic intensive care nurses to join our team. We currently provide 13 beds at St.Helier ICU & 8 beds at Epsom ICU/HDU. St.Helier ICU is currently a 13 bedded unit providing care for patients requiring emergency/scheduled general surgery, acute medical patients & those requiring renal support. Epsom ICU/HDU is an 6-8 bedded unit providing level 2 high dependency care for surgical patients following elective surgery & medical patients. We have the ability to treat & transfer level 3 patients requiring Intensive care; working jointly with St. Helier Hospital ICU. Our HDU provides an Enhanced Recovery Pathway for patients following colorectal, urology, & gynaecological surgery. The base site for this post is St. Helier ICU however, there is a requirement to work cross-site according to service needs. In order to fulfil the job role and learning requirements and meet service needs, successful candidates will be required to work cross-site, internal rotation days/nights/weekends & BH. NB: Please note applicants must have completed a Specialist Critical Care Course. Main duties of the job To provide expert hands-on care for the critically ill patients and their families within Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust, acting as an exemplary senior clinical role model. Provide assessment, planning, organisation and co-ordination of care to Intensive Care and High Dependency patients. Internal rotation for all staff within the department with a minimum of 3 weeks day duty per rota. Provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised care, creating a positive learning environment for junior staff, newly appointed staff and students, and provide supervision to junior staff and act as a mentor and assessor. To deputise for the band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse, taking charge of the unit as necessary, ensuring judicious use of resources and bed allocation between Level Three and Level Two care as a critical care resource internally and externally. To work in association with and support the Band 7 in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing or improving quality of patient care. Responsible for coordination of the unit team and the maintenance of care strategy and philosophy through leadership and supportive managerial skills ensuring that all individuals strive to achieve a high standard of care. To act as an effective role model and assist in the professional leadership of an identified group of staff ensuring that practice, education, research and evidence-based practice are strengthened.
