Commissioning Engineer
Location - Reading
We have a fantastic opportunity for Commissioning Engineers to join our Tier 1 Contractor Defence Nuclear project. Commissioning engineers are required to work with supply chain partners to commission bespoke equipment and plant to rigorous nuclear safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver the testing and commissioning of complex machinery and process equipment, ensuring all requirements are satisfied and proven during commissioning.
2. Ensure all commissioning works comply with the approved Overall Commissioning Strategy.
3. Identify all testing pre-requisites as early as possible and ensure they are in place before testing and commissioning starts.
4. Carry out testing and commissioning according to the approved documentation.
5. Conduct testing and commissioning in the most efficient way.
6. Notify all stakeholders of testing and commissioning and ensure appropriate witnessing authorities are informed before testing starts.
7. Record all test results on the approved test documents.
8. Present completed test documentation for approval and raise Commissioning Reservations as required, tracking and closing them out.
9. Support the Supply Chain partner Commissioning team in implementing arrangements for LC21 and relevant good practices within the project commissioning activities.
10. Line manage a commissioning team in terms of safety, performance, conduct, and output.
11. Apply robust commissioning/engineering processes and procedures ensuring coherence from the work package scope through to system level close out, including interface management.
12. Manage and implement commissioning stakeholder engagement plans and ensure safe procedures are applied consistently across the allocated work packages.
13. Prepare and present regular commissioning progress updates.
Experience Required
1. Experience of commissioning complex workshop and testing machinery and equipment, preferably to nuclear or pharmaceutical standards.
2. Proven track record in commissioning, preferably in defence or nuclear or similar technical sectors.
3. Strong client and stakeholder relationship building skills.
4. Demonstrable knowledge and application of commissioning methodologies.
5. Ability to operate both autonomously and as part of a larger team.
6. Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills.
7. Essential soft skills include leadership, flexibility, self-motivation, effective listening, persuasion, creativity, collaborative style, and insightfulness.
8. Computer literacy in Microsoft applications.
9. Full UK driving licence.
10. Apprenticeship and/or degree level and/or equivalent.
11. Security: Current holder of Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance, or willing to obtain security clearance required for the role.
