About the role:
Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant or Research Associate (post-doctoral researcher) in the Section of Virology within the Department of Infectious Disease, Imperial College London. The position is supported by Blood Cancer UK. This post is full-time, starting as soon as possible. The post is initially until 7/8/25 but can be extended with a few months once the exact start date is known.
What you would be doing:
You will focus on characterising the role and mechanism of host factors in HTLV integration. HTLV is a Biosafety Level 3 pathogen, so if you have experience working in a BSL3 lab, you will be able to hit the ground running. You will use various genetic, molecular and biochemical techniques, including next generation sequencing (NGS). The candidate will be in an excellent position to carry out research in the competitive field of retrovirology.
What we are looking for:
The project requires an exceptionally motivated scientist with an MSc (Assistant) or PhD (Associate) in a relevant area, and a solid background in molecular biology and, preferably with experience in retrovirology. Good experience with NGS analysis, working with R and/or experience with molecular retroviral work would be an advantage. You will have the opportunity to design and implement experimental strategies and to develop the project. You will have good interpersonal and presentation skills and will also be required to train/assist other members of the laboratory. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to submit publications to refereed journals, and to present your findings at international and national conferences.
