Pay Rate: up to £609.11 per day PAYE depending on experience
Hours per week: 37 Monday – Friday, TBC
Role Length: This opening assignment is for 6 months

The role is for an experienced company lawyer who is needed to review and potentially restructure the three companies and advise on governance matters. Support the Joint Strategic Director, Legal and Democratic Services and Legal Services Manager to provide a comprehensive, efficient and effective legal service. Support the Council, officers and members across the Council in relation to company matters as they arise. Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, legislation, professional codes of practice and adherence to Council policy. Deliver updated policies and procedures, projects, interventions and initiatives in conjunction with the team across the Council. Provide guidance, support, mentoring and management to other members of the legal team to enable delivery of legal services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership and be responsible for the management, development and training in relation to the Council’s Shareholder function.
* Assist in the overall management of the Council’s Shareholder function as required including developing ways of working and supporting colleagues to provide effective management. Providing support and advice to all members of the legal team in connection with the performance of their duties.
* Provide efficient, effective and pragmatic legal advice and support to Officers and Members and advise and deal with all legal issues arising relating to the companies.
* Negotiate, draft and complete all types of complex agreements and other legal documentation in relation to company matters.
* Assist the Joint Strategic Director, Legal & Democratic Services and the Legal Services Manager with the development of a plan and objectives and to ensure compliance with the objectives by the post holder.
* Attend all meetings, whether at Officer or Member level, as may from time to time be required and to undertake such other tasks consistent with the postholder’s experience and qualifications as may be requested by the Joint Strategic Director, Legal & Democratic Services and the Legal Services Manager.
* Work in partnership, as appropriate, with external bodies and advisors.
* Provide legal advice on constitutional issues and disputes arising in relation to company matters.
* Draft, review and comment on reports and prepare legal implications for reports to the Council, its Executive, full Council, other Council committees and other Officer/Member level meetings.
* Attend meetings and committees to provide legal support and advice to Officers and Members as required.
Qualifications:
* Must be a qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX Fellow
Knowledge:
* At least three years demonstrable knowledge and experience of providing sound legal advice and guidance in relation to companies
* Excellent up-to-date working knowledge of legislation, regulations relevant to company matters
Experience:
* Experience of working within the public sector - desirable
* Experience of advising at committee - desirable
* Experience of using a case management system - desirable
Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of high level stakeholders
* Excellent written communication skills with the ability to give sound legal advice and guidance on a range of complex legal matters with limited support from more experienced colleagues
* Strong IT skills with the ability to learn, use and manipulate a variety of systems
* Well developed organisational skills and able to prioritise work according to demand and complexity
* Ability to adopt a flexible approach to work
* Proven ability to give sound legal advice and guidance on a range of complex legal matters
* Proven ability to deliver training
