This will involve a mixture of real tasks that form part of the processes in Macmillan’s International Curriculum & Caribbean functional teams, that include marketing, sales, rights and licensing. It is key that the role provides valuable working experience for an intern to go on to pursue a career in publishing and so there are several developmental activities planned that will not only help in the tasks the intern undertakes for the department but will also serve as excellent experience for their further career. Responsibilities Tasks and activities will depend on the nature of the work going on at the time of the internship. Time will be spent in several of the functional teams reporting to their department head. Licensing & Business Development: Organise schedules for book fairs and international trips. Prepare rights guides and promotional materials for book fairs and international trips. Ensure that sample materials are sent to partners for review. Facilitate access to published works for people who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print disabled. Assist the Licensing & Business Development Manager in drawing up and tracking contracts from deal stage through to contractual negotiations and on to fully execution of agreements. Carry out business development research to identify potential new opportunities and to develop an understanding of the Curriculum market. Ensure department databases (including EdFlux) are up to date e.g. archiving digital files and contracts. General office administration for the department. Marketing: Review and support with digital support documents, working with the team to simplify instructions and create a consistent visual brand with support from designers. This may include WhatsApp graphics, website instructions, posters, how to guides and video demo’s (created by expert videographers). Collaborate with the team to update ‘Hive’ Macmillan’s internal intranet with key updates from the Caribbean region, in particular sharing CSR activity with the internal communications team. Contribute to the development and upkeep of the new Caribbean website’s blog page, reviewing content, coming up with a content plan moving forward and collaborating with designers and web developers to create a visual identity. Support with ordering of promotional items (e.g. pens, pencils and bags) to be sent to agents and bookshops in the Caribbean. Assist the Marketing executive with the creation of the 2025-2026 catalogues, providing feedback on layout, content and design aspects. What’s in it for you?
