We are looking for Senior Radioactive Waste Consultants to join our Environment, Waste and Radiological Services (EWRS) capability, a technically diverse team with nationally and internationally recognised expertise in a wide range of scientific topics within the nuclear industry. By joining a team of waste and decommissioning, environmental and radiological experts, you will play an instrumental role in driving innovation within the nuclear industry and tackling the unique challenges that the nuclear industry is facing in securing a sustainable future.
Your purpose:
As a Senior Radioactive Waste Consultant within EWRS, you will apply your technical expertise, skills and knowledge of the nuclear sector on a wide range of projects covering the entire nuclear lifecycle. Recent key projects that AtkinsRéalis consultants within the team have been involved in include:
* Aiding in detailed design of new Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies, considering waste and future decommissioning at the initial design stage.
* Supporting legacy decommissioning sites, devising solutions to a vast range of radioactive waste problems.
* Providing expert input on siting, permissions and waste acceptance criteria for the UK's Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).
* Deploying expertise to the next generation fleet of UK reactors.
* Supporting the UK's nuclear deterrent system, operation, maintenance and decommissioning.
* Undertaking research and waste management projects into new fusion related technologies.
What you can bring:
Ideally, applicants will have:
* A degree qualification in a scientific or engineering subject or significant technical expertise in a relevant field.
* Relevant experience in the nuclear industry or other relevant high-hazard field (e.g., oil & gas, defence, aerospace etc.).
* Significant experience in a consultancy or client-facing role.
* Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team, manage client relationships, and lead technical delivery of complex and challenging work packages.
Desirable skills, qualities and experience:
* Chartership from a relevant professional body.
* Understanding of the management of radioactive waste on a nuclear licensed site and on-site experience at a nuclear facility.
* Project and programme management, including staff development and mentorship.
* Bid writing and bid management.
* Experience undertaking BAT / BPM assessments, environmental management, radioactive dose modelling and waste characterisation.
* Deploying novel techniques for radioactive waste management e.g., robotics, automation, digital tools.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
