Job Title: Senior Project Design Lead – Clean Water
Location: Falmer (Hybrid working)
Salary: Up to £66,800 (depending on experience)
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Design Lead - Clean Water to oversee the design, technical review, and strategic planning of Clean Water infrastructure projects. You will provide technical leadership on a wide range of projects, ensuring the delivery of resilient, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for clean water networks. This includes overseeing projects such as mains renewals, burst-driven renewals, developer services projects, and water adoption agreements.
As a Senior Project Design Lead, you will drive innovation, lead multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure that all projects meet regulatory compliance while achieving budget and timeline goals. You will also play a critical role in stakeholder engagement, working closely with developers, regulators, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead design and technical review of clean water networks and developer-led connection projects, ensuring compliance with Water Industry standards.
2. Oversee feasibility studies, optioneering, and outline designs for clean water network reinforcement projects.
3. Provide leadership in developing innovative and cost-effective solutions while ensuring regulatory compliance and sustainability.
4. Manage multi-disciplinary design teams, ensuring the successful delivery of clean water infrastructure projects.
5. Monitor project budgets, design costs, and provide monthly design cost forecasts to the Project Managers.
6. Collaborate with Asset Strategy & Planning, Operations, and Programme Design Managers to deliver seamless project execution.
7. Drive innovation by incorporating digital modelling, smart technologies, and sustainable design solutions.
8. Mentor and develop junior engineers and Project Design Leads, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
9. Represent the company in high-level discussions with developers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
What We’re Looking For:
10. Extensive experience in clean water network design and delivery of complex projects.
11. Strong knowledge of clean water regulations, asset management, and network resilience planning.
12. Proven leadership in managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering high-quality design solutions.
13. Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
14. Financial awareness, with experience in cost control and business case development.
15. MEng/BEng/BSc or equivalent in an Engineering, Environmental, or related discipline.
16. Member of an appropriate professional institute (Chartered Engineer or working towards).
17. Desirable: APM Project Professional Qualification, NEC for Project Managers, and experience with DWI and Environment Agency requirements .
