The Geography Department at Bishop Barrington Academy is a driven department, passionate about geography and relentless in striving for excellence. The curriculum is carefully designed to promote curiosity and fascination about the world, as well as providing opportunities for students to make informed learning choices that are relevant to them both locally, in the Bishop Auckland area, and on a global scale. Our curriculum enables students to understand and ask questions about the world around them.
The department is committed to providing students with an enriching curriculum, in which students acquire knowledge on geographical issues and challenges in a range of contexts; from natural disasters and their impact on humans, to the economic development of the world’s nations and the impact of humans on our climate and ecosystems. Opportunities are provided for students to think deeply about the role they play as global citizens, encouraging them to foster a responsible and sustainable attitude; in summary, developing their ability to ‘think like a geographer’.
It's an exciting time to join our Geography department, with opportunities to make a difference and develop as a professional. You will be joining a department that is fully supported by the school's leadership team and the trust. You will join a team which has a common and shared goal in ensuring that the Geography curriculum is challenging, engaging and rigorous, while also providing each member of the team the opportunity to demonstrate their love of the subject, show autonomy and be creative.
