We have the opportunity for a Cost Draftsperson to work in-house for our client, a well-regarded housing law practice. They are seeking a dedicated and experienced In-House Costs Draftsperson to join their legal team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial efficiency and operational success of a fast-paced legal environment specialising in housing disrepair cases.
Responsibilities:
As a key member of the team you will:
* Prepare detailed bills of costs for housing disrepair cases.
* Provide accurate cost estimates.
* Negotiate cost settlements with relevant parties.
* Draft and respond to points of dispute in cost assessments.
* Manage processes for requesting provisional assessments and default costs certificates.
* Draft costs schedules and troubleshoot cost assessments across various cases.
* Mediate or arbitrate cost disputes between clients and their solicitors.
* Provide training and prepare guidance materials for fee earners on costs assessment processes.
* Maintain an efficient billing system and pursue unpaid fees where necessary.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
* Proven experience in legal costs assessment and budgeting.
* Strong negotiation skills with the ability to resolve disputes effectively.
* Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in documentation.
* Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
* Relevant certifications in legal costs drafting or related fields are desirable but not essential.
