Job Title: Stage Manager
Position Type: Fixed-Term Contract
Reports to: Company Management, Production Management, General Management
Location: Westend London
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Responsible for the welfare of members of the Company, carrying out department check-ins within the working week.
2. Liaise with the company manager, technical departments, resident creative team, production and general management teams, and venue staff to ensure the smooth running of all rehearsals and performances.
3. Communicate promptly with the company manager, production, general management, and the resident creative team about any changes that might impact Production.
4. Responsible for setting up and running rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances, ensuring the creative team and company are supported suitably. This includes recast rehearsals and ongoing cover rehearsals.
5. Take an active role in teaching new members of staff and deps.
6. Ensure an awareness of understudy and swing performances ahead of each show and make necessary adjustments.
7. Perform daily setup, oversee stage pre-sets, and communicate clearly with the deputy stage manager and the crew.
8. Manage the backstage and onstage areas during performances, overseeing scene changes to ensure these occur safely.
9. Handle any problems that occur during performances quickly and calmly.
10. Produce accurate rehearsal schedules and show reports and circulate them accordingly.
11. Maintain the Production as instructed and dictated by the artistic requirements and under the direction of the production manager and resident creative team.
12. Create accurate production paperwork and ensure the efficient flow of information as necessary for the smooth running of the show.
13. Familiarise yourself with all plots/tracks within the stage management department to provide holiday or absence cover for other department members as needed.
14. Learn the book and cueing of the performance to provide a safe and consistent cover.
15. Attend weekly Head of Department meetings.
16. Support the Disney marketing and press department in making arrangements for events and backstage tours, attending as necessary.
17. Work according to the Health and Safety Policy and maintain an excellent working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practices.
18. Liaise closely with Disney’s Health and Safety Supervisor to ensure the Health and Safety Policy is followed.
19. Work closely and in conjunction with the Company Manager and members of the team.
Skills Required:
1. Clear, confident communication and decision-making are essential.
2. Ability to remain focused and calm when under pressure.
3. Excellent relationship and interpersonal skills with cast, creative and production teams are essential.
4. Transparent and open approach, work well under pressure, enjoy leading from the front, and lead by example.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills and use of own initiative.
6. A full awareness of the need for integrity and confidentiality.
7. Organised with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
8. Experience of being ‘on-the-book’ desirable.
9. Experience of score reading ability desirable.
10. Experience in a similar role within a large-scale musical production working with an international cast is highly desirable.
11. Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
12. A strong team player.
13. Ability to follow instructions and department rules.
14. A motivated individual driven to learn new skills and understand what is required to maintain a consistent high production standard.
15. Discretion and ability to work closely with others.
16. Well organised across all work.
Additional Information:
1. 48 hours per week.
2. Weekend and evening work integral (Monday to Saturday show schedule).
3. This role will require the candidate to understand and follow the Health and Safety rules & regulations at the production.
