About this opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council provides a landlord service to social housing tenants living within its stock. The Housing Service provides a personalised and comprehensive service that enables tenants to live in good quality homes that are safe and well maintained.
The Housing Service has the responsibility for the investment and management of the Council’s housing stock to ensure everyone can live in a place they call home - a home which is affordable, clean, safe and warm, from which people can build stable, independent lives with access to schools, work and cultural activities. Our priorities align with the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 and Council Plan putting residents at the heart of services.
We are looking for someone qualified or working towards HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Building Studies or similar. You should have experience of project planning and managing construction or built environment projects; working within a construction or building environment; dealing with and monitoring the work of building contractors on and off site; working within health and safety regulations; and experience in cost management and invoicing, with experience of working within a role that involves income recovery or transactional analysis. You should be an excellent communicator on all levels with a strong ability to listen and build effective and meaningful relationships, including developing partnerships with external agencies.
Being organised and having good problem-solving skills are essential requirements for this post as is the ability to work well as part of a team and using your own initiative. You should be able to lead a team of other surveyors in order to ensure the effective delivery of the investment and management of the council’s housing stock. You should be an excellent communicator and have experience of dealing with customers and the general public. In order to fulfil the requirements of this role you should be able to identify and remedy contractor errors and omissions effectively. Computer literacy is also essential in this role.
This role will be a combination of office-based work and off-site inspections and contractor meetings.
