Job Description
26 hours per week (part time)
Fixed term to 31 March 2026
If this is you, this role may be for you!
You’ll join a growing charity and a team committed to supporting women and families experiencing perinatal mental health challenges to enable recovery. This role is focused on providing support to people who have experienced distress and trauma related to their pregnancy/birth experience.
Light is a perinatal mental health peer support charity, set up in 2010, which has grown to support parents and their families across South Yorkshire. We’re led by our passion to support mental health during pregnancy and beyond for all families from all communities.
We work across South Yorkshire with families who are experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in the perinatal period. Working in partnership across the statutory and voluntary sector to raise awareness of perinatal mental health difficulties and the support available.
We’re committed to providing services that embrace diversity to support equity in service access and promote equality of opportunity.
Since 2021 we’ve been providing peer support services to parents experiencing distress and trauma around the maternity/birth experience across South Yorkshire in partnership with local NHS Maternal Mental Health Services.
You will provide peer support to women and families who have self-referred or have been referred to Light. You will use your own lived experience of trauma associated with pregnancy and childbirth in a positive way to support and encourage others on their own recovery journeys. This will include use of appropriate self-disclosure to provide inspiration and hope to people using the service. This will involve the provision of structured 1-1 support and group support responsive to the needs of service users. You’ll be comfortable collaborating with clinical professionals and raising awareness of the value of peer support services to mental health recovery.
We’re committed to staff well-being and development. You will be supported in your role by Light’s leadership team and a passionate team of Peer Support Workers working across South Yorkshire.
Equality at Light
Light is committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all that we do and we welcome applications from people from all communities particularly under-represented groups. We’re aiming for a workforce that is truly representative of the communities we serve.
We’re a family friendly employer and open to discussion on flexible working subject to service needs.
