Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre team at Manchester Royal Infirmary, working as a Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinator.
Main duties of the job
As Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinator, you will manage and develop the established counselling service for cancer patients and relatives at the hospital. You will be responsible for volunteer counsellors recruited into the team, assign them to clients as appropriate, and deliver appropriate psychological therapy for clients yourself when required.
You will work closely with cancer teams on the Oxford Road Campus who refer clients to the service, as well as the Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinators on other MFT hospital sites, ensuring parity of provision across the Trust.
Working for our organisation
MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of £2.6bn and is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We are creating an exceptional integrated health and social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.
Bringing together 10 hospitals and community services from across Manchester, Trafford, and beyond, we champion collaborative working and transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate, so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.
We have created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, operational effectiveness, and drive research and innovation through the introduction of Hive, our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.
We are proud to be a major academic Research Centre and Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. We are also excited to be embarking on our Green Plan, which outlines how MFT continues to make healthcare more sustainable.
At MFT, we foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, providing equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, while protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
