We are keen to receive applications from senior procurement professionals for this rare opportunity to work as a Grade 9 senior manager in UCL's IT&T Services category team with a focus on indirect procurement of services. In this role, the successful applicant will be managing procurement and commercial contract management activity, driving forward buying and commercial solutions to deliver strategic drivers for the category, working with allocated Faculties and Departments to drive tangible value for money and optimized solutions, identifying and promoting best practices, and liaising with users to roll out and integrate new ways of working.
The successful post-holder will report directly to the Head of Corporate Services and will be accountable for the following activities:
1. Developing individual procurement plans which meet the needs of both the category and sustainability.
2. Negotiating Value for Money (VfM) commercial arrangements for the category.
3. Managing large scale tenders.
4. Advising on compliance matters such as when to compete and when to sole source.
5. Ensuring UCL’s interests are reflected in commercial deals.
6. Developing and maintaining subject matter expertise related to the category and buying needs of faculties.
7. Recruiting, developing & retaining highly capable staff, supported by clear development/career plans.
8. Assessing demand on existing contracts and developing transition plans for new suppliers as appropriate.
9. Developing an appropriate Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) process for the category that is tiered to identify specific types of suppliers needing slightly different SRM approaches.
10. Owning and driving non-pay saving initiatives across the category.
11. Continuously improving business processes across the category and faculties, putting in place innovative new ways of working.
12. Making a significant and valued contribution to the Commercial Leadership Team, jointly shaping the Commercial strategic plan and driving its execution.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role will be a commercially astute team player with good strategic vision, strong analytical skills, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, a collaborative approach to working alongside internal stakeholders and external suppliers, and a strong track record of influencing and delivering commercially excellent solutions. You will have significant commercial or procurement experience, hold a degree (or the equivalent level of experience gained in the work environment), and have a strong track record of successfully managing a category/sub-category, delivering against strategic objectives and metrics, and achieving challenging targets. You should have a strong track record of managing stakeholder groups and influencing key stakeholders, as well as extensive experience of overseeing large tenders, conducting contract/SLA negotiations and drafting contractual documents, as well as managing supplier performance and disputes.
