Risk and Compliance Manager Opportunity

We're currently working with a brilliant leading West Midlands law firm looking for someone to join them as Compliance Manager. This full-time role offers the opportunity to lead and enhance the firm’s compliance framework, ensuring it meets all relevant regulatory and risk management standards.

The Role
As the Risk and Compliance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and management of the firm’s compliance framework. You will provide expert advice and training across the firm, manage relationships with external auditors and regulators, and ensure robust systems are in place to uphold professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Embed a culture of compliance across the firm and provide coaching to team members.
2. Act as a key advisor on compliance issues, including AML, GDPR, Lexcel standards, and conflicts of interest.
3. Develop, implement, and train staff on policies, controls, and procedures.
4. Serve as the primary point of contact for external regulators, auditors, and compliance partners.
5. Conduct compliance risk assessment workshops and internal audits.
6. Perform GAP analyses to ensure best practices and address compliance weaknesses.
7. Provide solutions to onboarding queries, including client due diligence and source of funds/wealth.
8. Generate regular compliance reports and manage the firm’s risk management strategies.
What You Need
1. Proven experience in Risk and Compliance within a law firm or equivalent regulated environment.
2. In-depth knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including SRA Standards and Regulations, AML, GDPR, and quality standards.
3. Desirable: Familiarity with legal aid work and Lexcel standards.
4. Degree-level education or equivalent, with a legal or compliance qualification preferred.
5. Strong communication and report-writing skills.
6. Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
7. Experience in coaching and managing others is highly desirable.
