Job Description Summary
Responsible for the design, validation and troubleshooting of GE Grid Solutions Protection and Control devices. You will define product technical requirements and solutions utilizing specifications, simulations, and model-based design for implementation. You will be a solid team player, with a methodical and structured approach to your work, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and a comprehensive in-depth understanding of technical concepts and principles for power system protection and control.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Work with Program & Product Management teams to create high-level specifications.
2. Develop and support protection and control solutions using detailed functional specifications describing algorithms and test plans and model-based design for code generation.
3. Perform system studies and simulations using appropriate tools to validate GE Digital Energy algorithms.
4. Analyze user specifications / requirements to recommend appropriate GE Digital Energy solutions.
5. Analyze market trends and requirements to propose new developments in GE Digital Energy products.
6. Work with Customer Support personnel to resolve product, process, and customer issues.
7. Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, products, applications, or field issues.
8. Provide technical consultation, leadership, and guidance throughout the entire NPI design process.
9. Author technical papers and present materials at tradeshows and conferences for GE products.
10. Assist in preparing training material and deliver training courses, where required.
11. Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new and/or experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, and co-ops when required.
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge/experience.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing applications in the P&C (Protection & Control) market or in a postgraduate/research environment.
3. Have legal authorization to work in Canada and be aware that any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation.
Desired Characteristics
1. Advanced experience in power system protection and automation products.
2. Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink for model design and power system simulation tools such as RTDS, PSCAD, or ATP/EMTP.
3. Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited to reference verification and background check.
4. Must have unrestricted Canadian work authorization, or obtain work authorization in the short term.
5. Knowledge or experience of metering, wireless/Ethernet/serial communications applicable to P&C (such as IEC61850, Modbus, DNP3.0 and IEC60870-5-103).
6. Demonstrated record in developing applications for the P&C market.
7. Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated and self-directed.
8. Excellent communication skills and a proactive and open approach to conflict resolution.
9. Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks, working in a multi-tasking environment.
10. Knowledge of modern protection and control and distribution automation developments and trends.
11. Familiarity with industry standards and documentation procedures of electrical utilities.
12. Proven record of writing and presenting papers at industry conferences.
13. Ability to share ideas and work well in a team environment, proactive approach to tasks displaying initiative.
