Job Title: Generative AI Lead
Salary: £67,300 to £82,500
Location: Cambridge/Hybrid
Contract: 11-month maternity cover fixed term contract/ secondment
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to shape and lead the business approach to Generative AI across Cambridge University Press and Assessment. This role is to scope, shape, direct and deliver the Generative AI programme.
We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
About the role
Generative AI is developing swiftly, and we are exploring a range of opportunities to improve internal productivity and create additional value for the teachers, students, researchers and learners we serve around the world. Initiative delivery is owned by the relevant business units, and this delivery is enabled and guided by a small central team who provide thought leadership, governance, guidance on effective, ethical, secure implementation, capability building, and visibility at Board level of the progress being made.
We are looking for someone to lead this central team. In this role you will shape our strategic approach to Generative AI, steer the work of enablement workstreams, identify opportunities for cross-organisational alignment, and report progress to the Chief Executive and Board. The role reports jointly to the Director of Strategy and CIO (who are the Board sponsors for the work).
About you
You will need to excel at engaging Board-level stakeholders, providing thought leadership, managing change, ensuring effective governance, and overseeing communications and skill development within a large matrix organisation.
You should be enthusiastic about the opportunities that evolving technology brings to the organisation and the people we serve, as well as aware of potential risks and the necessity of mitigating them through rigorous governance. You will thrive in an environment of constant change and be able to support colleagues across the organisation to advance confidently.
A working knowledge of generative AI technologies, standards, and legislation is essential. Demonstrable experience in leading large, cross-organisational programs is also required. Additionally, you must possess strong leadership, collaboration, and consensus-building skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
The ability to motivate individuals and create high-performing teams is crucial. You should have advanced conflict management and problem-solving capabilities. As a strategic thinker and thought leader, you must exhibit excellent commercial acumen.
