The post is held within the Business Compliance and Early Intervention service operating within the Adult Social Care and Health Services.
We are seeking to recruit a self-motivated, forward-thinking individual who is committed to supporting individuals in our community to lead fulfilling lives. As a key part of our team, you will help ensure financial assessments are completed accurately and efficiently, ensuring residents are invoiced for client contributions based on Croydon’s Charging Policy and financial assessment outcomes.
The Role
As a Financial Assessment Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals accessing adult social care services are assessed fairly and in line with local and national guidelines. This includes determining their financial contributions toward the cost of care services while offering clear advice and guidance to residents and their families, completing tasks necessary to ensure that invoices are raised, and income collection is maximised.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct financial assessments in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
2. Analyse complex financial data, including income, savings and expenditure to determine eligibility for financial assistance.
3. Prepare reports and maintain comprehensive records of all financial assessments.
4. Stay updated with changes in local government policy, financial regulations, and relevant legislation.
5. Liaise with clients, their families, and representatives to collect and verify financial information.
6. Provide clear explanations of assessment outcomes, addressing any queries sensitively.
7. Maintain accurate records and ensure all assessments are completed within set time frames.
8. Work collaboratively with social care teams, providers, client representatives, and other stakeholders as necessary.
9. Follow procedures to ensure governance is adhered to.
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong numerical and analytical skills who has a strong attention to detail. You will need to balance technical accuracy with compassionate communication. You’ll be a team player with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable adults and their families and be flexible in your role to ensure deadlines are met.
Essential Skills and Experience
1. Experience of working in a customer-facing role or in financial services would be advantageous.
2. Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, financial regulations, and welfare benefits.
3. Strong numeracy and IT skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
4. Proven experience in handling financial data, interpreting financial information and performing calculations.
5. A methodical approach to work.
6. Ability to work effectively under pressure whilst managing competing priorities.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to individuals in clear, understandable terms with empathy.
8. Previous experience working within adult social care / working with vulnerable adults within local government functions.
9. Understanding of deprivation of assets and self-funding thresholds.
