University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
We are looking for a compassionate and values-driven individual to join us as our new Deputy Care Group Manager to jointly lead the cardiothoracic and vascular care group (CV&T). We are a large and busy service within UHS, with a core workforce of 900 talented individuals delivering in excess of 87,000 outpatient episodes and over 10,000 inpatients admissions each year.
Given the complexity and volume of our work, we are expanding the operational management team to include a new service manager to support a portfolio of specialties. You will be busy; the rhythm of the CV&T is fast paced and our patients are central to everything we do.
However, you won’t be alone, you will be working with amazing teams of brilliant individuals who all make miracles happen every day. As you become established, you will work with teams to see how we can make improvements to benefit the experience of our patients and our own staff.
As one of the largest care groups, in one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, this role is an amazing opportunity to use your already excellent operational skills as well as the chance to develop new or enhanced skills along the way.
Cardiovascular and thoracic (CV&T) see about 90,000 outpatients a year alongside delivering approx. 11,000 inpatient activities, of which almost 5,000 are urgent/emergency cases from across our region. With this volume of activity and the acuity of most of patient groups you can be certain that our operational work is challenging, rewarding and inspiring.
All operational roles in CV&T are predominantly located on-site at Southampton General Hospital but some ad hoc flexible working options may be possible for specific projects.
UHS employees can access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

· You will work with a wide group of internal and external stakeholders including specialty lead clinicians, matrons, operational managers within the care group - and across the Trust.
· You will demonstrate your ability to manage a range of challenges from project delivery to policy and finance ,to working across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, keeping the patient at the heart of all that we do.
· You will work with the CGM and the rest of the management team to support each other, share ideas, deliver projects and work together to meet shared deadlines e.g. strategic plans, reporting, transformation objectives.
What we’re looking for
· Compassionate leaders who can bring a track record of success in a complex, multi-site, patient-facing operational delivery and management position, with an ability to maximise the opportunities available within a rapidly changing healthcare community.
· Proven experience in delivering operational excellence in a hospital setting; you will also be a supportive manager who can engage, empower and support career growth in your colleagues.
· You need to be curious and able to turn an idea into something tangible and have the tenacity to drive forward work on behalf of our patients and teams.
