The Opportunity
Our client is one of the UK's largest Engineering consultants. They are currently searching for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their team out of their Reading office. There will, however, be the occasional requirement for travel to the Northeast.
Contract - This role has been deemed inside IR35
Duration: 12 months rolling
You will be working on a variety of projects on a major government framework. This role is offered on a contract basis, with 40 hours per week expected. You will be able to work flexible hours and on a hybrid basis.
Please note, due to the nature of the projects, candidates must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. This means that we are unable to consider candidates who are not UK Nationals, or those who require sponsorship, now, or in the future.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
1. In-depth knowledge of British Standards and regulations applicable to electrical system design.
2. Specification of MV/LV Transformers including validating Vendor designs against requirements at Vendor design and FAT stages.
3. Specification of GI/GNI distribution systems including validating Vendor designs against requirements at Vendor design and FAT stages.
4. Input to mechanical/process/machine specifications from an electrical perspective.
5. Production of electrical engineering deliverables including calculations such as load schedules, cable sizing calculations, electrical equipment data sheets, reports, and technical bid evaluations.
6. Guide designers in the production of electrical drawings including SLDs, schematics, specifications, models, datasheets, reports, and evaluations.
You Will Have the Following Qualifications & Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation or Control Engineering.
2. 15+ years' experience working in engineering design in the nuclear, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, mechanical handling or water industries.
3. Familiarity in working in multi-discipline teams, evidencing ability to coordinate activities with other disciplines and engineering departments.
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn quickly and develop innovative ideas to novel problems.
5. Engineering Leadership skills; ability to provide technical direction, coordinate, and check work completed by senior and junior engineers.
6. Proficient in power modelling software (Trimble, SKM Powertools).
It's Great If You Also Have the Following
1. Ability to manage and progress work independently requiring limited intervention from the engineering management team.
2. Strong communicator with the ability to efficiently develop documentation using appropriate technical language to describe processes, ideas, and designs.
3. Good presentation and communication skills when facing Clients.
The Setting for the Role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licensed site. These can include nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gases, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
