We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Maintenance to lead a dedicated team responsible for maintaining and improving the University’s diverse estate portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management and Projects, this pivotal role ensures that all University buildings and facilities are safe, accessible, and maintained to the highest standards.
As Head of Maintenance, you will:
• Develop and deliver maintenance strategies, programmes, and schedules to meet statutory, mandatory, and best practice requirements.
• Lead and inspire a skilled team, including Mechanical, Electrical and Building Engineers, and oversee their performance and development.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards through robust safe systems of work and effective contractor management.
• Drive operational excellence by defining service standards, KPIs, and leveraging digital solutions.
• Play a key role in achieving value for money (VFM) and alignment with the University’s strategic goals.
About You
To excel in this role, you will bring:
• A relevant qualification in Building Surveying or Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical) or equivalent experience.
• Membership of a recognised professional body, such as RICS, CIOB, or IWFM.
• Proven experience in managing maintenance services, formal plans, and contractor performance.
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety standards, statutory compliance, and maintenance procurement.
• A collaborative and service-oriented mindset, with excellent communication and leadership skills.
