Whilst our projects will be predominantly in the rail sector, you will also have the opportunity to apply your capabilities to creating innovative solutions in other transport, industrial and manufacturing sectors.
As a System Safety & RAM Consultant, you will support a variety of mission-critical projects carrying out safety and reliability analyses and safety risk assessment activities across a range of industry sectors. Typical tasks/activities would include:
1. Operating as the safety and/or reliability assurance technical lead on a variety of mission-critical projects
2. Planning, organising and scribing Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) workshops
3. Producing, reviewing and quality-assuring project outputs (e.g. documentation, reports, specifications) to ensure that they meet or exceed client expectations and Arcadis requirements and comply with national standards and codes of practice
4. Safety assurance activities in the Rail domain to demonstrate full compliance with the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-REA), covering all lifecycle stages of project delivery
5. Undertaking Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
6. Fault Tree Analysis / Event Tree Analysis
7. Developing Engineering Safety arguments and justifications in support of design changes
8. Undertaking Reliability Assessments (typically using Reliability Block Diagrams)
9. Preparing/contributing to Safety Assurance documentation: Safety Plans, Safety Cases, Hazard Reports, System Definitions
10. Preparing/contributing to Reliability Assurance documentation: Reliability Availability and Maintainability (RAM) Plans, RAM Analyses and other reliability assurance documentation
11. Performing Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling
12. Performing DSEAR and Hazardous Area Classification studies.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Experience in System Safety and Reliability / Risk within a mission-critical industry (experience from the Rail industry would be preferred, although any relevant experience from mission-critical industries is beneficial)
2. Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management and experience of applying the Common Safety Method (CSM), Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations (ROGS) and BS EN, and for RAMS
3. Working knowledge and able to develop safety risk and reliability models using Reliability Block Diagrams, Fault Trees and Event Trees
4. Working knowledge of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) using a variety of techniques
5. Experience of supporting HAZIDs/ HAZOPs workshops and contributing to Safety Cases
6. Must have the ability to work across different time zones and as part of a diverse team internationally.
7. Desired: Ability to read electrical schematic block diagrams and engineering drawings
8. Desired: Use of the Isograph Reliability Workbench or similar software applications
9. Desired: Experience of working across more than one mission-critical industry, e.g. Rail, Energy, Process Industry (incl. Oil & Gas), Aerospace & Defence.
10. Desired: Experience delivering consequence analysis and/or dispersion modelling
