Barry Bennett are one of the largest companies offering specialist support to students in receipt of DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance) throughout the UK. We provide a range of support specialised to everyone’s individual needs whilst studying at university.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the support for individual students with a range of disabilities, including specific learning difficulties, mobility difficulties, unseen disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and mental health conditions. You will work closely with NMH Manager, supervising the team of NMH Coordinators and monitoring workloads to ensure the department service level agreements are maintained. As a supervisor you will be responsible for reporting departmental information to the NMH Manager at weekly meetings.
You will also work closely with the NMH Internal Recruiter making sure that the NMH team have a sufficient pool of staff available to support their caseload of students. You will provide a daily emergency contact for students and support workers, as well as being the named contact for any required external services.
Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Financial Controller the main responsibilities will include:
* To supervise the NMH Coordinators and monitor workload, deploying strategies to help with efficiency within the team
* Report to the NMH Manager regarding the team members duties and performance, providing feedback where necessary and reporting team strengths and weaknesses to management
* Motivates, guides, and mentors team members to exceed goals and creates a positive environment during the working day
* Provide cover for the NMH Manager in their absence
* To help ensure successful recruitment of non-medical personal helpers (NMH) and subsequent matching of NMH (support workers) with disabled students. Monitoring the support provided and ensure a high standard is maintained
* To provide first line supervision to support workers providing them with support and guidance as required
* To be a point of contact for funding bodies should any queries arise with support worker timesheets
* To provide a responsive contact service for disabled students who have support workers. You will be required to answer general queries regarding support required and to also find short notice back-up support in case of illness etc
* Help co-ordinate on-going training for support workers and ensure all support workers meet the requirements set out by Disabled Students Allowances (DSA).
* Support other NMH Coordinators and to maintain a management information database to ensure that students do not overspend their Disabled Student Allowances
* Be a named contact for external organisations, including assessment centres and universities, and be required to maintain accurate records of all contact with any organisations. This will include travel to universities across the country, where necessary
* To represent the company at regional and national meetings regarding NMH and the DSA
* To represent the company at national conferences
* Participate in and contribute to Workshops, including delivering presentations where necessary.
* Any other duties that may reasonably be required by the NMH Manager, within the scope of the role.

The successful applicant will possess the following qualities:
* Be a clear and efficient communicator by email, phone and face to face
* Experience supporting a team
* Ability to motivate and encourage others to perform
* Ability to deal with complex situations to a satisfactory conclusion
* Experience working in higher education surroundings (beneficial)
* Have excellent attention to detail
* Hold solid relevant experience in supervising staff
* Be proficient in Microsoft Office packages
* Enjoy working as part of a team
* Manage your own workload and entrusted to manage own time
Further Information:
* It is anticipated that this job description will change over time in accordance with the needs of the role. The role holder will be fully consulted on any proposed amendments.
* Computer equipment will be supplied to enable you working from home, you will be required to have an internet connection.
* Hours of work will be 35 per week, to be worked 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, with the option to work a 9-day fortnight
* The position will be subject to a probationary period of 3 months
