ABOUT THE ROLE
As a trustee, you will be part of a group responsible for overseeing the administration and management of Murmur. You will help grow Murmur from a start-up to a charity able to make major grants and have significant positive impact on the climate fight.
The remit of the board of trustees is as follows:
1. Review and ratify Murmur’s strategy. Ensure continuing compliance with the objectives set out in the strategy as well as other legal responsibilities.
2. Provide clear strategic direction to the management team, on issues including:
1. Operating policies and procedures
2. Management of assets
3. Distribution of funds
3. Ensure that Murmur is properly resourced and set-up for success.
4. Ensure the financial stability of Murmur.
5. Safeguard and protect the reputation of Murmur, identify risks and ensure that these are brought to the attention of the management team.
6. Support the growth of Murmur by helping the team access trustee’s professional networks.
REPORTING LINES:
1. The board of trustees will review and ratify the recommendations of the management team for implementation.
2. The board of trustees will review and ratify the recommendations of the Advisory Groups as to the allocation of funding.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR A TREASURER WITH:
1. Interest/experience in climate & nature.
2. Interest/experience in the cultural sector.
3. Experience of fundraising from industry partners or philanthropy.
THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
1. Overseeing the annual accounts and risk profile for board and charities commission.
2. Advising Operations Director on management of expenditure and income, budget and payroll and presenting financial reports to board where necessary.
3. Oversight of banking transactions and approval where necessary.
4. Working with ops director to develop finance policies for charity and cost management & investment best practice.
5. Ensuring the charity’s compliance on legal, regulatory, accounting practice and administrative changes.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Successful candidates should demonstrate the following:
Relevant knowledge and expertise:
1. Substantial financial leadership experience within an organisational setting.
2. Finance or accountancy expertise.
3. Experience of working with charities.
4. Experience in grant-making organisations, or of grant-making procedures.
5. Experience of start-ups or scaling a business globally and an interest in operational set ups.
6. An expansive professional network to help grow the organisation.
7. A passion for the arts and the role that arts organisations have to play in tackling the climate crisis is a significant bonus.
Commitment:
1. Ability to commit time to conduct the role well. This includes, on average, an hour every fortnight communicating with the management team, including bi-monthly board meetings in office hours (in London ideally) and the occasional event.
2. A willingness to represent Murmur and contribute actively to the growth of the organisation.
Travel expenses and invitations to selected organisation and stakeholder events.
