Role Overview:
Reporting to the Vessel Master, the Chief Officer is responsible for overseeing the safe and effective operation, administration, and supervision of deck activities and personnel. This role also includes maintaining a secure navigational watch and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as the Safety Officer, ensuring the safety of all personnel and the vessel, efficient operations, and adherence to pollution prevention measures.
* Maintain a safe and effective navigational watch.
* Oversee the upkeep and functionality of life-saving and fire-fighting equipment.
* Implement company health, safety, environmental, and quality policies.
* Report any defects, hazards, incidents, or accidents to the Master.
* Plan and document deck activities, including mooring equipment inspections.
* Allocate and supervise daily tasks for the deck crew, offering support to other departments when needed.
* Conduct deck operations efficiently and safely.
* Manage and control inventory of mooring equipment aboard the vessel.
* Review and update contingency plans, risk assessments, and operational procedures.
* Ensure all nautical publications and charts are current.
* Prepare the vessel for statutory surveys and ensure it remains in a seaworthy condition.
Candidate Requirements:
* Practical experience in a similar role aboard a vessel.
* Valid Officer of the Watch Deck II/1 certification.
* Advanced fire prevention and firefighting training.
* Strong seamanship skills and familiarity with deck operations.
* Certification in personal survival techniques.
* Proficiency in handling survival craft and rescue boats.
* GMDSS Radio Operator Certificate.
* Radar and ARPA qualifications
