About the role:
Are you an experienced, technical accountant with a proven track record of leading the delivery of Group external audits and the production of FTSE-250-style Annual Reports & Accounts? We have an exciting interim opportunity for a Group Reporting Manager to join Sage on a fixed-term contract.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, you will play a key role in coordinating and ensuring the successful delivery of the annual external audit for Sage's group of companies and the end-to-end production, and publication of the Annual Report & Accounts. This is a pivotal role that offers a unique blend of technical accounting expertise, project management, and team leadership.
You will be responsible for directly managing Sage's Group Reporting Accountant and ensuring smooth and timely execution of the audit and financial reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities include:
* External Audit Coordination:
o Act as the key point of contact for Sage's external auditors.
o Own the audit timetable and ensure smooth, timely delivery of “Prepared by Client” (PBC) audit papers and financial reporting notes.
o Monitor and streamline external audit processes, ensuring timely responses to audit requests.
* Financial Reporting:
o Lead the production of statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS102) and Housing SORP for Sage's three Registered Providers of Social Housing and multiple smaller entities.
o Coordinate the collection of requests from the Finance team, reviewing deliverables with diligence and accuracy.
* Accounting Policies and Controls:
o Act as the SME for accounting policies, controls, and procedures to support a robust system of internal control, mitigating risks of waste, error, or fraud.
o Support the Group Financial Controller in monitoring compliance performance against the calendar.
* Stakeholder Collaboration:
o Partner with key stakeholders, including Tax, FP&A, and Treasury teams, to ensure seamless alignment and support.
* Leadership & Ad Hoc Duties:
o Manage and develop the Group Reporting Accountant.
o Provide ad hoc technical accounting advice and undertake duties as required.
About you
To thrive in this role, you'll need to be:
* Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA), ideally practice-trained with a Big Four firm and with significant post-qualification experience in practice or industry.
* Experienced in managing external audits and producing Annual Reports & Accounts in UK GAAP (FRS102).
* Analytical, highly numerate, and detail-oriented, with a strong financial accounting background (experience in property or housing sectors is advantageous).
* A proven leader with experience managing and developing high-performing teams in technical, fast-paced environments.
* A collaborative communicator, skilled in building relationships with stakeholders across finance functions.
* An advanced Excel user and proactive problem solver, with the ability to independently organise, manage, and complete tasks.
