Job Description:
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
Administer accommodations provided under the American with Disabilities Act as a member of Disability Support Services and Student Services. Provide an initial overview of procedures and available services to students with disabilities. Review and manage files to ensure accuracy and availability of documentation for students with disabilities. Administer college placement tests, quizzes, tests, and examinations as authorized by accommodations. Assist in providing academic advising services as needed. Provide study skills and tutoring assistance to students individually. Provide case management services for students who require regular support to keep up with their classes. Operate and manage assistive technology equipment. Train students in the use of assistive technology. Work cooperatively with campus IT staff to coordinate installation and maintenance of computer-based assistive technology. Coordinate note-takers and interpreters, to include participating in placement and performance tracking. Maintain student database and prepare statistical reports, as necessary. Coordinate andprovide instruction to students with disabilities on study skills, time management, stress management, mental health resources each semester. Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
1. Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities.
2. Previous work-related experience with assistive support technologies.
3. Considerable experience using student information system.
4. Work related administrative experience.
5. Previous work in an office environment.
Knowledge:
6. Comprehensive knowledge of working with students with disabilities.
7. Vast knowledge and experience of the Americans with Disabilities Act Section 504 & 508 of Rehabilitation Act and its implications for the college student populations.
8. Substantial knowledge of providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities.
9. Broad knowledge of various assistive technology tools.
10. General knowledge of academic programs of study.
11. Expanded knowledge of FERPA.
12. Knowledgeable of accessibility standards and best practices including Web Accessibility Guidelines.
Skills:
13. Highly skilled in the operation of standard office equipment, computers/laptops, related software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
14. Effective oral and written communication skills.
15. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the College and community.
