You'll join a successful Finance team of talented individuals, who deliver good levels of service, and who aim to continuously improve. You will play a key role in this, leading and developing the team, and ensuring high levels of financial control are embedded within all financial processes. As the only public corporation in the NHS family, at NHSBT you will encounter a wide range of interesting technical accounting challenges, and you will need to anticipate and address the impacts of changes in NHSBT services, accounting standards and taxation requirements, to help support the organisation save and improve even more lives.
You will lead a team of 5 staff and will deputise for the Assistant Director of Financial Control and Operations as required. You will have a key leadership role in the Finance Control and Operations team, more widely within the Finance Function, and in respect of financial control across the wider organisation.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of financial data stored in our financial systems which forms the basis for reporting to the NHSBT Executive, NHSBT Board, Department of Health and Social Care, HM Treasury and other external stakeholders, including ensuring its compliance with accounting standards and policies. Your responsibilities will include:
* Managing all statutory financial reporting including the NHSBT Annual Accounts, Trust Fund Annual Report and Accounts, NHSBT's submission for the Whole of Government Accounts, and any financial monitoring information required by the Department of Health and Social Care or other bodies.
* Ensuring that income and expenditure is correctly accounted for, enabling the production of high-quality financial accounting data to the highest standards.
* Ensuring financial controls are embedded throughout NHSBT processes to prevent financial loss and error.
* Maintaining compliance with VAT, IR35, employment taxes, charity law, Managing Public Money and the HM Treasury Financial Reporting Manual.
* Leading and developing the financial accounting team.

* A starting salary of £74,290 - £85,601 per annum in accordance with Agenda for Change (AfC).

Qualifications
Essential
* Recognised Accounting Qualification such as CCAB (or equivalent awarding body) - with full membership of the respective accounting body having been achieved. Significant post-qualification experience working at a strategic level in a large, complex organisation.
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
Experience
Essential
* Significant demonstrable financial and management experience within a large, multi-disciplined organisation(s).
* The ability to bring an open mind to the funding issues faced by NHSBT and the ability and knowledge to use frameworks, systems and procedures when providing financial support and advice.
* Knowledge of performance improvement frameworks, business analysis techniques and related concepts (e.g. balanced scorecard, beyond budgeting).
* Keeping an up-to-date knowledge of the Planning & Performance environment and the ability to interpret and pass on the relevant information in a variety of media.
* Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of the complex, cross-disciplined, inter-relationships across a manufacturing and service supply chain.
* Knowledge and experience of operational and strategic financial management in a large organisation.
* Knowledge and understanding of a variety of management/performance systems and significant line management experience.
* Excellent demonstrable experience of working with information technology including Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
