Job overview
Applications are invited for a HCPC Registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology. The work site will predominantly be based at Worthing Hospital and support the St Richards site when required. Our current instrumentation includes: Abbott Alinity Hq and Hs, Tosoh G11, Werfen ACL Tops Ortho Vision and StarrSed. We provide haemoglobinopathy screening services for the West side of the trust.
You must have a Specialist IBMS Portfolio (or its predecessor, the CPSM/HPC logbook and oral examination). You should also have an MSc or equivalent qualification in the appropriate speciality or at least 2 years’ continuous post Specialist Portfolio registration (or CPSM/HPC logbook) experience within a diagnostic NHS Haematology laboratory.
You would be expected to have experience in delivering training, analyser troubleshooting and Quality management systems. You must have good knowledge of blood film morphology and technical knowledge of Haematology analytical instruments, be confident in leading a team and have good communication skills. Experience in Haemoglobinopathy screening is advantageous. Evidence of competencies and knowledge will be required and will be assessed at interview.
Main duties of the job
* Quality activities to maintain UKAS accreditation status
* Training and supervising of BMS and MLA staff and maintaining staff competency logs
* Managing staffing in the section
* Ensuring analysers are maintained correctly and undertaking any troubleshooting that is required; dealing with engineer visits for maintenance and repairs.
* Organising the section around planned and unplanned analytical downtime
* Stock control and ordering of reagents and materials

HCPC registration
* Must be HCPC registered with no fitness to practice concerns or limits to practice
Qualifications
* Must have completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma (or CPSM/HPC log book and oral exam)
* MSc. Biomedical Science or MSc. Haematology
Experience
* Must be working at band 6 or above with 2 years or more continuous experience post IBMS Specialist Diploma (or CPSM/HPC) in a UK NHS diagnostic laboratory. Higher scores for experience that meets requirements of job role/description. Evidence to demonstrate their skills/knowledge/CPD will be required at interview
* NHS Haematology laboratory experience is essential
