Project Archaeologists and Senior Project Archaeologists
Be among the first 25 applicants. Please submit applications via email to archaeology@heritageinsight.com.
Heritage Insight is a well-established and respected cultural heritage consultancy firm with a history of successful projects in both Aboriginal and historic archaeology. Our offices are in Kensington, and we offer the opportunity to work from home where appropriate.
We are a friendly and supportive organisation that encourages staff to work as a team. Staff are generous with their time and are always happy to share their knowledge with other members of the crew.
If you care about what you do and are hoping to contribute to the field of archaeology and the wider heritage industry, then you may find your home with us.
Due to the great increase in projects across Victoria, Heritage Insight is looking to expand its team. We are looking for BOTH mid-level and senior archaeologists.
About You
* Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
* Ideally, around 3+ years’ experience for mid-level roles and 5+ years’ experience for senior roles. However, if you think you would be a good fit for one of these roles but don’t have that many years with your boots on the ground, we encourage you to get in touch and have a chat with us anyway.
* Enthusiastic and positive outlook.
Why Work for Heritage Insight
* The chance to be part of a strong team of fun-loving, hard-working professionals.
* We are aware that there can be a lot of pressure to deliver for clients. At Heritage Insight, we are very conscious of how this and other pressures can affect us all. We encourage our staff to take breaks and accrued leave as needed. We offer flexible work hours and arrangements - your mental health and work-life balance is important to us.
* We try and temper the day-to-day of commercial heritage management with fun projects. These projects are done for love, not for money, and can often offer ongoing learning in a myriad of forms.
* Salary packages are negotiable and will be based on the qualifications and experience of the individuals.
* Work in a collaborative environment, closely with Registered Aboriginal Parties and Traditional Owner groups.
Key Selection Criteria
While we are reasonably flexible here at Heritage Insight, there are a few key criteria that applicants must have experience with. These include :
* Archaeological field survey
* Excavation
* Analysis of data
* All applicants must hold a current driver’s license, with the ability to drive a manual vehicle an advantage.
* Willing and excited to participate in fieldwork that may take you all over Victoria.
* Have contributed to the CHMP process, with sole authored Plans considered a great plus.
* All applicants must be registered as a Heritage Advisor with Aboriginal Victoria or be eligible and willing to do so immediately upon commencement of role.
About the Roles
The successful applicants will be motivated and enjoy working on a range of projects and tasks. These will include (but are not limited to) :
* Preparation of heritage assessments including CHMPs, due diligence studies, cultural heritage permits, Preliminary Aboriginal Heritage Tests, and salvage reports.
* Consultation with Registered Aboriginal Parties and other Traditional Owner organisations, with clients and a range of other stakeholders.
* Preparation for and conduct of fieldwork. This will include site inspections, systematic surveys, controlled hand excavation, and machine excavation.
* Recording of archaeological sites.
* Use of field equipment, including differential GPS units and digital cameras.
* Project archaeologists will receive mentoring by senior team members, and senior project archaeologists will be able to mentor more junior members of the team.
Applicants should submit a covering letter outlining all relevant industry experience and a current CV listing projects in which the applicant has been involved (and in what capacity), as well as a sample list of reports authored or co-authored by the applicant (if any).
