The Production Technician will have to complete product / tool changeovers on Extrusion machines, process start-up and shut-down together with quality checks including first off approval and routine periodic checks. The Production Technician will be required to undertake Production Operator tasks as and when required; including visual and dimensional quality checks, packing, labelling, transfer of data to relevant systems (IFS, MATTEC, QUALITY DATABASE) and moving by truck to the finished goods yard. Key accountabilities Ensure that production plans are met on time and in full at the required cost and quality levels. Ensure all agreed safe methods of working are followed at all times and report near misses or Big Six hazards in order to prevent potential accidents. Complete product / tool changeovers, including the die head, calibrators and all associated downstream equipment are completed in a safe manner within the expected changeover time. Ensure that product first off and routine quality checks are completed and that products meet the required dimensional and visual specifications. Start-up and shut-down of the various extrusion processes. Ensure that standard production outputs are met or exceeded. Ensure both extrusion tool / calibrator and equipment are maintained to the highest standards within the bounds of the Production Technician responsibilities. Participate in production handover at the beginning and end of each shift worked. Ensure all waste products are separated into their designated containers Carrying out controlled material trial’s unaided when required. Responsible for fault finding, technical communication and recording of all relevant information regarding production stoppages. In the absence of the Team Leader take responsibility for the shift regarding safety, problem solving, task setting, priorities, accountabilities, performance management and communications. Leading New Tool or product trials and recording information for the trial owner. Along with team leader ensure all recycled material use targets are being met on a day to day basis or driving investigations into reasons why this isn’t possible. Ensure overweight targets are met. Be competent in setting up and basic fault finding of all on line inkjet printers to include creating new messages, setting of printer parameters and rectifying and reporting of all printer related faults. Drive company values and promote an environment of continuous improvement. Selection of job / tool / product from planning board taking account of priorities Selection of machine for removal of outgoing tool and insertion of new tool / calibrator Last of extruded product checked and tooling / production data entered onto the appropriate system Set up Extrusion machine and downstream equipment using relevant data sheets Obtain first off sample for dimensional and physical testing Machine put into operation and the operator informed of production so that packaging and labels can be sourced Document all relevant data on QUALITY DATABASE, MATTEC, or IFS Conduct ongoing quality checks for visual, dimensional and stress testing Person Specification Experience setting and running all Extruders and downstream equipment unaided. NVQ L3 or equivalent Extrusion pipes and profiles. Set up, start up, monitor and shut down all 3-layer extrusion manufacturing processes.
