Registered Nurse/OPD - Maternity Theatres
We are recruiting for a Registered Nurse or an Operating Department Practitioner who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner post is a vital and valued role to support in providing high-quality, compassionate nursing care to women undergoing clinical / peri-operative procedures in the Maternity Unit.
You will be able to scrub for all elective and emergency maternity theatre cases and provide post-operative care to the women.
Based within maternity theatres, you will work closely with the Department Manager, Matron, and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff, and service development within the unit setting.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Assist and care for women undergoing elective and emergency caesarean sections, contributing to treating women during clinical emergencies.
2. Receive, transfer, and position women for clinical procedures.
3. Support, monitor, and care for women and their babies during clinical procedures and in the post-operative period.
4. Prepare equipment/supplies and ensure waste is kept to a minimum.
5. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and comfort of women.
6. Plan, implement, and evaluate the peri-operative care of the women as part of a multidisciplinary team.
7. Store, prepare, and administer prescribed drugs to women in accordance with Trust Policy and monitor the effects of drugs on women.
8. Work in any of the Theatre areas according to service needs, regardless of which theatre department you are based in.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* Registered Nurse or Registered ODP
* Willingness to undertake relevant post-registration courses as advised by the Practice Educators/Theatre Team Leaders
* ILS/ALS certification
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Evidence of mentorship and preceptorship training
* Advanced Life Support certificate
Previous Experience
* Gained through relevant study
* Post-qualification experience within the perioperative setting
* Relevant experience in inpatient or day surgery theatre, maternity theatre, or other relevant clinical area
* Peri-operative practice, skilled in recovery and scrub
* Experience of providing clinical support outside of the theatre area
Skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Basic IT skills
* Ability to organise and prioritise
* Ability to demonstrate initiative
* Flexibility
* Clear written and spoken English
* Experience as a scrub and circulating assistant, recovery person, or relevant experience within a critical/acute care setting.
* Relevant experience within maternity or gynaecology surgery
* Ability to effectively and efficiently run a theatre list
* Participation in the audit process
Knowledge
* Aware of the National 6 Cs campaign

* Understanding of peri-operative patient care
* Understanding of aseptic technique and the work involved in caring for women in theatre

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum (pro rata)
