Job Description
Organon is hiring an Industrial / Occupational Hygiene Specialist to join our world-class manufacturing site in Cramlington, Northumberland. In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in conjunction with Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), Manufacturing Operations, Engineering, Occupational Health, and HR to identify, assess, and evaluate solutions to control workplace health hazards and manage associated risk to health. This covers chemical, physical, and biological agents and forms a pivotal role in helping the organisation understand health hazards and how they affect the health of workers.
The role includes management and development of the site Occupational Hygiene Programmes in line with Company Standards and UK legislation, development & delivery of the occupational hygiene field assessment strategy, and evaluation of exposures to hazardous agents within the workplace to determine the level of risk.
This role will also support business projects on the design concepts for engineering controls and support commissioning activities and verification of effective controls where required.
Role responsibilities:
* Undertake measurements for chemical agents, noise, vibration, thermal environment, and non-ionising radiation and interpret results with respect to established criteria.
* Plan and organise surveys, develop sampling strategies in accordance with established guidance and protocols.
* Identify reasonably practicable control measures for non-complex situations.
* Use of qualitative and quantitative assessment methods for assessing exposures.
* Ensure reports are documented and communicated to key stakeholders.
* Evaluate risk and any need for action to prevent or reduce exposures.
* Advise on containment solution options for exposure prevention.
* Advise on the range of methods for exposure control.
* Advise on appropriate selection and use of personal protective equipment.
* Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in control strategies and work with key stakeholders to enhance the end user’s knowledge and understanding of risk.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
* BOHS Certificate of Competence in Occupational Hygiene or equivalent.
* Degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrable relevant professional experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
* Ability to identify potential Health & Safety risks.
* Thorough understanding of local and regional legislation regarding workplace Health & Safety.
