Job title: Finance Manager - Part-time - 20 hours per week spread over 4 / 5 days, £45 to £50k FTE (depending on experience)
Job Purpose:
This role will take full ownership of the financial management of our business. The role-holder will be required to be a business partner to internal stakeholders, supporting them in their defined areas and driving a "best in class" practice. This standalone role provides an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a hands-on, end-to-end finance position. Reporting to the Head of Operations, this role will also be supported on a part-time basis by the Synaptiq Health chief financial officer (CFO).
Responsibilities:
As the sole finance professional in the business, you will be responsible for all aspects of financial management and reporting, including but not limited to:
Financial Operations
* Oversee and manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
* Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices, expenses, and payments.
* Maintain the integrity of financial data within the company's accounting systems.
Project Accounting
* Work closely with the Head of Operations to track project costs and profitability, ensuring accurate revenue recognition in line with accounting standards.
* Administer project oversight within Synergist by opening, updating, and closing jobs according to company procedures, including reconciling and addressing final project financial discrepancies. Also, estimates should be set up using correct rate cards and exchange rates.
* Regularly review outstanding purchase orders and unbilled expenses to ensure timely billing.
* Track time allocation on projects to prevent or address overservicing.
* Monitor the financial performance of client projects, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
* Responsible for drafting client invoices and ensuring these are sent out on time in line with client contracts.
Budgeting and Forecasting
* Prepare and manage the annual budget in collaboration with senior leadership.
* Conduct regular forecasting and variance analysis to provide insights into financial performance.
* Proactively identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
Financial Reporting
* Prepare monthly management accounts and present key findings to the leadership team.
* Deliver accurate year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors as required.
* Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and PAYE submissions.
Strategic Support
* Partner with the leadership team to provide financial insights and guidance on strategic decisions, such as pricing, investment, and resource allocation.
* Support business growth initiatives by preparing financial models and analysis for new projects or markets.
Compliance and Risk Management
* Ensure adherence to all UK financial regulations and standards.
* Manage cash flow to ensure the business remains in a healthy financial position.
* Maintain effective internal controls and update financial policies and procedures as necessary.
This role is ideal for a proactive and adaptable finance professional comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced SME environment.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
* Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
* Experience with project-based accounting and / or time-based billing.
* Proven experience in a similar end-to-end finance role, ideally within an SME.
* Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax regulations.
* Hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical sectors.
