If so, our NHS 111 Clinical Advisor role could be for you. The role is an excellent opportunity to build on your Nursing or Paramedic experience and to continue to deliver outstanding patient care without the physical demand of acute work.
A Day in the Life
You will be assessing patients over the phone, using the NHS Pathways systems alongside your existing clinical knowledge and expertise.
You will use your clinical knowledge to signpost patients to the most appropriate level of care; this could include an emergency ambulance, GP appointment or home management advice.
Principal tasks will include:
Clinical
1. Applying your clinical expertise to assess an individual’s health condition.
2. Working within the NHS Pathways system content to advise service users, their representatives and Health Advisors.
3. Ensuring that every patient interaction is conducted appropriately, with an emphasis on the provision of clear, evidence-based advice and signposting to an appropriate service.
Quality Assurance and Safety
1. Understanding, adhering to and promoting the principles of information governance in relation to access to clinical records, the handling and access to and communication of patient identifiable information.
2. Understanding, adhering to and promoting local policies for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, while ensuring referrals to the appropriate services are made in a timely manner according to policy.
3. Understanding, adhering to and promoting the principles of risk management in relation to patient and staff wellbeing, the physical environment, and the systems in use. Following local guidance for action and reporting upon identification of a risk.
4. Promoting local best practice in relation to clinical assessment and provision of advice to service users and their representatives.
5. Being aware of HUC’s performance criteria and adhering to this.

1. Able to commit to 8 weeks of full-time training.
2. Able to commit to one of our rolling rota patterns, covering our 24-hour operational period. All patterns include weekend working.
3. Able to clearly and confidently communicate with callers from all walks of life.
4. Able to adapt to a caller’s individual needs.
5. Passionate about providing a service you would recommend to your friends and family.
6. Competent with IT.

You will be responsible for assessing callers with a wide spectrum of clinical conditions, advising them on home care management, next steps and referring them on to further care when appropriate. The computer-based clinical decision system will facilitate and support the advice given.
Clinical Advisors are required to work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the service provided by providing high-quality, evidence-based healthcare to the immediate needs of the patient.
You will demonstrate a commitment to a high-quality service, excellence in clinical practice and continuous professional development, which are all integral to the role and the development of the service.
