Trainee Auditor
Lancashire County Council is offering an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our Internal Audit Service as a Trainee Auditor, a first step in building a career as an Internal Auditor. The successful applicant will work with a well-established, experienced and friendly team, recognised across the organisation for the value it adds to improving strategic and operational effectiveness. You will be supported through study leading to a professional internal audit qualification and will develop valuable practical audit skills by supporting delivery of a wide range of internal audits across the council's business.
The trainee is Grade 6 post (£25,979 to £29,777) with the potential for progression to Grade 8 (£33,945 to £38,223). This is subject to your making sufficient progress in the role including successful attainment of key competencies based on a competency framework and a formal internal audit qualification.
We have a flexible approach to where you work and, while you will be based at County Hall in Preston, you will be able to spend some time working from home. This wide-ranging role includes all council services, schools, partner organisations and local authority trading companies so you will also need to work at other locations across the County.
In addition to Lancashire County Council, we provide services to several external partner organisations. We provide a professional, independent and objective service that supports a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving governance, risk management and internal controls, to help them achieve organisational priorities and objectives.
Reporting to the Audit Manager, you will work with colleagues or on your own to deliver audits which provide robust assurance over council activities.
What We Are Looking For : With or without an audit background, you:
* Are self-motivated and efficient, working alone or with colleagues to deliver to deadlines and manage changing demands and client needs;
* Have excellent attention to detail, an enquiring mind and the ability to understand and analyse data and interpret facts;
* Have proficient written and verbal skills;
* Are enthusiastic and positive, with the confidence to understand and question processes
* Use your judgement to report balanced, robust findings and work with clients to improve services.
* Have experience of effective negotiation to resolve problems.
* Are an excellent communicator and can develop productive working relationships with people at all levels.
You will provide advice and insight to senior managers and assurance to the council on its governance, risk management and control framework.
To maintain our excellent relationships with clients, you should have good organisational skills and the ability to work alone on your own workload as well as part of a team. You will. be educated to at least 'A' level (or equivalent) and be committed to gaining a professional audit qualification.
