Gantrail are a world leader in the specialised field of crane rail systems, with customers in most countries. They’re looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer who is early in their career and eager to bring their skills to a successful and dynamic company. The company designs and manufactures crane rail systems, specifically the fasteners and bearing pads used by industrial, marine/port and mining sectors. You’ll be working in the Technical Department under the supervision of the Technical Manager. The role will include work on both R&D projects and ongoing support to the Sales and Operation teams. You will be expected to contribute towards the design and development of the next generation of products, from the concepting stage all the way through to launching them to market. This will include the creation of 3D models, technical drawings, test plans and reports, as well as having an input into the marketing material. Alongside the R&D work you will provide a pivotal role supporting the Sales and Operations teams with technical enquiries/support such as product selection and generating engineering drawings and supporting documentation. This role involves daily engagement with sales and the production/operations department, as well as a range of customers and suppliers from around the world to help progress business operations. You’re an engineer with industrial experience working in civil, mechanical and/or product design environment, looking for a technical role within a design and manufacturing environment to support customer enquiries and R&D projects. Create engineering layouts, arrangement, and part drawings for customers.
Generate and update technical documentation and tools such as product datasheets and in-house excel calculators.
Complete design checks of proposed layouts and products using in-house calculations.
Actively support the progression of R&D projects:
Assist with drawings and part design.
Support with product development processes e.g. documentation, planning and reporting of projects.
Support with executing investigative and verification mechanical tests on-site and with 3rd party labs and suppliers.
Provide support with Quality Management System actions.
The qualities we’re looking for:
Supportive of business continuous improvement projects, open mind to new ideas, processes, company initiatives.
Education to degree level or HND in relevant engineering discipline.
Strong CAD skills and experience (AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred).
Strong technical writing and communication skills – reports, procedures, presentations.
Proficient use of the Microsoft Office package (excel, teams and word especially).
Experience working to engineering drawing best practices.
Awareness of project management methods.
Within commuting distance to Gloucester, as the role will be office based 3 days a week.
