This creative and dynamic role will support the operation and growth of the Reach Out Makerspace Programmes by designing and developing programmes and activities which incorporate inventive approaches to STEM learning, both onsite in the Makerspace and in collaboration with local community organisations.
The Invention Rooms is a unique space for innovation and the community situated in the developing Imperial College London White City Campus. Here you can find workshops, design studios and interactive spaces that have been designed to bring our neighbours from the local community together with our academics, students, alumni and partners to build prototypes and share ideas.
This role will provide core support for all users of the Makerspace – as well as supporting the White City community engagement team to widen the reach of Imperial programmes to young people and communities in the local area.

In the role you will be responsible for designing sessions that run in the workshop and off site for community collaborations– bringing together STEM subjects and emerging technologies with more traditional making and prototyping tools.
The role will focus on optimising and refreshing programme content and structure for existing programmes as well as researching and developing new and innovate approaches to making and accessing STEM learning.
Working closely with the Makerspace workshop team, the post-holder will support the delivery of existing on-site programmes but also spear-head research into new materials, equipment and techniques to enable expansion and development of existing Makerspace programmes.
The role will coordinate the planning and delivery of Makerspace community collaborations and pilot projects, including liaising with external stakeholders, training casual staff, gathering data and evaluation for reporting purposes and liaising with the workshop team on equipment and materials requirements
1. A good degree in a STEM based, or Design based area
2. Familiarity with workshop or equivalent, including experience of traditional making hand tools and equipment and basic health and safety protocols
3. Experience in delivering training to groups and individuals
4. Experience of developing and delivering learning opportunities to different ages and abilities
5. Ability to think creatively and to be an adept problem solver
6. Experience of internal and external stakeholder communication
7. Excellent written and spoken English
8. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks as part of a challenging workload and work to aggressive deadlines
9. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
10. Ability to interact and work closely, proactively and flexibly with both adults and children
