Senior Quantity Surveyor – Social Housing Refurbishment & Maintenance

A leading contractor operating within the social housing sector is seeking a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team, based out of the Hungerford office. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of key refurbishment and maintenance contracts across the region, working on vital projects that improve the quality of homes and communities.
The Role:
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the full commercial management of multiple social housing projects, including planned works, voids, and reactive maintenance. Working closely with contract managers, client teams, and subcontractors, the role will involve overseeing costs, ensuring contract compliance, and contributing to the successful delivery of high-volume housing programmes.
Key Responsibilities:

Commercial leadership on refurbishment and maintenance contracts

Accurate preparation and management of cost plans, valuations, and final accounts
*
Management of subcontractor procurement, payment schedules, and variations
*
Identification and mitigation of commercial and contractual risks
*
Detailed reporting and forecasting to ensure financial visibility and control
*
Support to junior commercial staff and wider project teams
*
Maintaining strong relationships with housing associations, local authorities, and supply chain partners
The Ideal Candidate:

Extensive experience in quantity surveying within the social housing sector
*
Strong understanding of refurbishment and maintenance workflows
*
Proficient in JCT and TPC contracts
*
Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and contract administration
*
Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
*
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related field (or equivalent experience)
*
Professional membership (e.g. RICS) desirable but not essential
