Are you an experienced, motivated and forward thinking paediatric dietitian looking to further develop your clinical and leadership skills? You will work in Southampton Children’s Hospital to cover maternity leave for 12 months. You will share a case-load of respiratory patients with a band 6 dietitian and support two band 5/6 dietitians to deliver care to medical, surgical and orthopaedic patients.
Alongside a band 6 colleague, you will support the Southampton children’s integrated rehabilitation team (SCIRT) regional neuro-rehab inpatient service (4 bedded unit) and provide dietetic expertise to fortnightly multidisciplinary outpatient clinics as part of the Neuro-Muscular service.

This role will suit an experienced dietitian with excellent paediatric clinical nutrition skills and a desire to develop supervision and leadership skills.

The Paediatric Dietitians are a large, diverse team. There are excellent opportunities for CPD and career development. We are a registered trainer for student dietetic placements and won the University of Winchester Placement Educator of the Year Award 2023.
The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs approximately 130 staff, providing acute and community services for adults and paediatrics. We are supported by a large admin team and our clinical teams work closely together on shared initiatives.
You will:
• Work as an autonomous practitioner, providing highly specialist clinical dietetic expertise to infants and children with a variety of clinical conditions, across the inpatient wards, including the paediatric HDU.
• Provide dietetic support to children seen in the fortnightly Paediatric Neuro-Muscular outpatient service
• Provide advanced dietetic assessments and individualised treatment plans for a complex specialist caseload
• Work closely with MDT colleagues to plan and deliver clinical services and initiatives
• Provide supervision, teaching and support for junior staff, ensuring adequate cover is in place during periods of staff absence
• Attend regular meetings with the other team lead dietitians and service lead
• Lead on assigned projects and service developments within speciality area
• Provide advice and guidance to dietetic colleagues across the region as appropriate
• Facilitate the implementation of national standards and guidelines relevant to your clinical speciality
• Undertake data-collection, audit, evidence-based projects/research and review of clinical practice
Experience and skills needed
You will:
• Be a highly skilled paediatric dietitian with recent and significant experience of working in paediatrics,
• Have an excellent working knowledge of paediatric nutrition support
• You must be able to demonstrate advanced analytical thinking, show attention to detail and possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
• Be able to demonstrate your ability to work as an autonomous practitioner, providing highly specialist clinical dietetic expertise in a defined area
• Have experience of supervising junior dietetic staff and/or students
• Have contributed to the development of policies and resources supporting delivery of evidence-based dietetics
• You must be able to voice your professional opinion to provide advice and guidance to dietetic and other health care professional colleagues
• Experience of leading or co-ordinating audit or research is desirable but not essential
