As a Band 5 Registered Nurse (RN) on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), you will be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care. You will work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward manager/charge nurse. Following successful completion of preceptorship, you will be required to take charge of an area for a span of duty.
The post holder will always work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care. You will develop clinical knowledge to care for unwell adults, ensuring safe drug administration and excellent communication skills to optimize care for unwell patients on AMU. Additionally, you will maintain a safe environment for patients, relatives, and colleagues, planning and implementing safe discharge for patients while liaising with the multidisciplinary team.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Carrying out venepuncture, cannulation, VBG, ABG, blood cultures, catheterization, and managing PEG feeding.
2. Documenting all care as per NMC guidelines and ensuring all patient risk assessments are completed within the expected time frames.

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting and processing the successful applicant's DBS application be recovered via salary deduction following the start in post. The amount of £23 (standard disclosure) or £43 (enhanced disclosure) will be deducted from salary in manageable monthly installments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment. Bank posts require upfront payment.

Minimum Requirements:
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
* Diploma in Nursing
* Desirable criteria:
o Mentorship/teaching qualification
o Post-registration qualification in relevant specialty
o Post-registration experience and successful completion of Band 5 foundation gateway competencies
o Experience within a relevant clinical setting
o Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment
o Evidence of working with students
o Recent acute hospital experience (including as a student nurse)
o Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
o Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
