About The Role UNLOCK YOUR BEST WORK LIFE We are looking for an experienced Patient Pathway Coordinator to join our Patient Administration Team to be based at our Southampton hospital. Our administration team is organised by three teams – Reception and Referral, Mid-Pathway/Outpatients/Endoscopy and Surgery Bookings Team. Each team is responsible for all appointment bookings, from the first Outpatient visit to surgery and post-operative reviews and includes liaison with referrers and external providers of diagnostic services. As an integral part of the hospital, you will have a high level of patient contact over the telephone and in reception areas. Our focus at all times is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality service and treatment quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings. This is a full-time permanent position (37.5 hpw) Working 7.5 hrs pd Monday to Friday on rota shift pattern basis Some flexibility to cover sickness and annual leave What you'll be doing This position will see you accountable for assuring the effective booking of surgical treatments for our patients. This position would be ideal for those who have performed the same if not very similar role in the past; managing the booking and potential cancellations of client bookings and all the following ups, documentation, communication and notification that would be involved. You will be answering and documenting phone calls from patients, GP surgeries and other hospital departments on all aspects relating to booking appointments, patient admissions and patient referral letters. It will be your responsibility to identify and register all new patients and manage their referrals; you will need to confidently answer questions and provide advice to patients regarding their appointments. As the Patient Pathway Coordinator, you’ll be playing a patient-focused and supportive role, keeping in contact with patients on waiting lists to offer earlier or newly available appointments, and contacting them prior to their appointment to set their expectations. What we’ll look for in you Previous experience of working in an administrative or secretarial role within a healthcare environment Ability to demonstrate high standards of verbal and written communication Ability to deal with matters of sensitive and, at times, distressing nature To be fully conversant with all Microsoft Office software Ability to learn and use internal and external IT systems Ability to prioritise a constantly changing workload and remain calm under pressure Time management and organisational skills Clear understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality in all areas of work including phone conversations, written materials and processes Everything we do is focused on providing a high standard of safe and effective patient care.
