An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, hardworking, motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Medicine for Older People Team.
The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills within the field of medicine for older people, be able to communicate effectively and have good organisational and time management skills. The ability to work both individually and as a member of a team and to prioritise activity is a key requirement of this post. Previous experience within this area is essential.
The team provides a 7-day service to the inpatient service at Whiston hospital and an out-patient service on Allen Day Unit at St Helens hospital working with a broad range of medical and neurological conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver a high standard of evidence-based care.
2. Be confident in their assessment and decision-making.
3. Play a key role in the discharge planning process; including making recommendations about individual rehabilitation needs and discharge/placement requirements.
4. Have excellent skills in assessment and provision of equipment, including specialist manual handling equipment and formulating written care plans.
5. Supervise therapy assistants; rotational Occupational Therapists and students on clinical placement within the specialty.
6. Work closely with Physiotherapists and undertake generic therapy assessments and treatments to a basic level.
7. Have significant postgraduate experience as a junior therapist in a post with broad-based rotational opportunities, including previous experience of working with medical patients.
8. Work flexibly and adaptably to changing working patterns.
9. Have a working knowledge of a broad range of conditions with proven clinical skills in this specialist area.

Key Duties:
1. Be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients/clients in your care.

6. Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and local requirements.
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities:
1. Maintain Professional Registration.
2. Work within Trust clinical guidelines, HCPC and Registrant Body guidelines.
3. Be responsible for a designated area of work, as delegated by a senior clinician.
4. Provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
2. Participate in a variety of MDT, internal and external agency meetings.
Teaching & Training Responsibilities:
1. Maintain own clinical professional development (CPD).
2. Support junior staff in their development.
Line Management/Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Delivering change within the sphere of practice to improve service delivery.
2. Provide specialist advice and guidance in working with colleagues locally.
Clinical Governance, Research & Audit:
1. Adhere to the appropriate Registrant Body code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
2. Demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
