Job Summary:
The Manager of Newborn Screening and Family Outreach Programs oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs focused on newborn health screenings and Maternal and Child Health. This role ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines, supports team development, and fosters partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations to optimize health outcomes for newborns and their families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manage program in accordance with organization policies/procedures and standards consistent with Federal and State regulations.
2. Provide backup coverage for the team and planning activities to the Department of Health.
3. Serve as a resource for other referral sources. Review and assist with complex patient/family situations and consult with the Social Worker and other team members at the appropriate Hospitals as needed.
4. Oversight of newborn screening programs, including hearing, metabolic, and other mandated health screenings.
5. Manage maternal and child services to ensure timely communication of results, referrals, and follow-up care.
6. Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
7. Supervise and support staff involved in newborn screening and maternal and child health, including screeners, coordinators, and outreach specialists.
8. Manage and coordinate orientation and education programs in accordance with established organizational standards, guidelines, and in response to the organization educational needs assessment and plan.
9. Maintain current information regarding agency’s programs and community resources. Foster working relationships and communication with community agencies and personnel; ensure current resource information is on file and updated regularly.
10. Build and maintain partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support program goals and enhance service delivery.
Requirements:
1. Graduate of an accredited bachelor’s level nursing program (BSN) required. Current knowledge of managed care and other reimbursement sources such as Medicaid.
2. Minimum total of three (3) to five (5) years nursing experience in a home care environment. Minimum of two (2) years clinical nursing experience in a medical/surgical or acute care environment. Previous experience within specific clinical area, based on assignment, preferred. Minimum of one (1) year clinical nursing experience in Maternal Child Health. Supervisory experience preferred.
3. Must possess a valid RI State Board of Nursing license.
4. Must possess a valid driver’s license and current automobile liability insurance.
5. Must be CPR certified.
