Role: SEMH Learning Support Assistant (Secondary school age)

Salary: £20,000 - £22,000
Here at Long-Term Teachers, we work closely with a fantastic independent special school in Newton Abbot and they are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their close-knit team! The school cater for a range of needs, with the primary need being focused around social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
The role:
The role of an LSA is an exciting one. You will help the class teacher in preparing lesson materials and support the delivery of lessons. You will play a key role in ensuring the students are engaged in their learning. Furthermore, you will take great responsibility for the social and emotional wellbeing of the students. Due to the students' needs, you need to be confident and resilient in managing challenging behaviour.
Due to the small size of the school, you will be working on a one-to-one basis. This will allow you to build a meaningful relationship with the students you support, allowing them to make significant progress. It is an incredibly rewarding role where you will be able to have a direct and positive impact on their daily lives.

The school provides an excellent blend of delivery of core subjects across the national curriculum as well as vocational activities/experiences. Alongside traditional studies, students also have the opportunity to undertake animal care on their farm, horticulture and outdoor adventurous activities. A therapeutic approach underpins the work that they do. As a forward thinking school that take great pride in supporting their staff too, they aim to implement a 4 day working week very soon!
The ideal candidate:
* Previous experience working with SEN/SEMH
* Additional qualifications is desirable (e.g Teaching Assistant Level 2 or 3, NVQ Health and Social Care Level 2 or 3)
* Confident in managing challenging behaviour
* Enthusiastic, passionate and resilient
* Able to drive and have your own car
You will be working Monday - Friday, 8:45am - 3:45pm (until 5pm on Tuesdays), term time only.
