We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Histopathology on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Histopathology department.
Our Client's histopathology department is in a purpose built building on the main trust's site with MDTs taking place here and at the other site. The district public mortuary is also situated at the main site. Histopathologists fully support MDTs with weekly meetings with Breast, Colorectal, Respiratory, Urological, Dermatological and Haematology cancer teams. Fortnightly meetings are held with the Gynaecological cancer team and the thyroid cancer team. Also monthly liver and IBD review meetings are held. A microscope and audio-visual facilities are available at these locations and a range of other clinico-pathological meetings are also held. All consultants are encouraged to participate in their relevant EQA schemes.
The appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties: The Histopathology department follows a pull system of case allocation and is sub-specialised. All the consultants currently report at least 2-3 specialties. They are open to candidates being generalists or subspecialists and will be happy to discuss the specialty interests and their wish to develop these. An interest in one or more of the following specialties: skin, GIT, Respiratory, Gynae, Non-Gynae cytology including thyroid and Urology, will be helpful. The department undertakes coronial autopsies, in a recently refurbished mortuary, and is UKAS accredited. Approximately 6 trainees get posted to the Department every year. They have one BMS who has passed the Diploma of expert practice in Histological Dissection and has been contributing to the cut up for the last 2 years and they have another enthusiastic BMS who will be starting the Diploma in autumn.
Our client offers the best of both worlds, the attractions of big cities, attractive market towns and the villages, all within easy travelling distance & excellent transport links to big cities such as Birmingham & London along with 2 highly touted international airports.
