We are a friendly and inclusive early years setting, seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join our team.
The SENCO will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision within the setting. This includes ensuring that all children with SEN receive the necessary support to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.
2. Develop and oversee the implementation of the setting SEN strategy and policy.
3. Work closely with staff, families, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies for children with additional needs.
4. Monitor and report on the progress of children with SEN.
5. Ensure the setting's SEN provision remains compliant with legislation and regulations.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
1. Qualified Teacher Status preferred but not essential.
2. Level 3 or above Early Years Qualification.
3. National Award for SEN Coordination in Early Years.
4. Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to this role.
Experience
1. Experience of supporting children with SEN.
2. Experience of working with parents and external agencies.
Skills and Knowledge
1. In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and current legislation.
2. Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, their parents, staff, and external professionals.
3. Knowledge of the Wigan Inclusion Team.
4. Attendance at previous SENCO Cluster Meetings preferred but not essential.

The suitable candidate will work 30 hours/week, supporting the SEN children in our care, holding meetings with our families, and have effective organisation skills to complete the necessary paperwork. Flexibility throughout the week is essential to ensure that all SEN children are provided with valuable 1:1 time.
