Senior Planning Lawyer
Location: East of England (flexible, with occasional travel required)
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37 hours per week) – Part-Time applications considered
Salary: £49,500 – £56,750 per annum
About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Lawyer (Planning) to join a leading public sector legal services provider in the East of England. This is a permanent, full-time (or part-time) position where you will play a key role in advising a range of public sector clients on a variety of planning, development, highways, and corporate governance matters.
Key responsibilities include:
* Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on planning, large-scale development, highways, and corporate matters to ensure compliance with statutory duties and protect the interests of client organisations.
* Project Negotiation: Advise on and negotiate complex, multi-agency projects involving diverse stakeholders, including government bodies, the third sector, and charitable organisations.
* Client Support & Relationship Management: Work closely with clients to understand their legal needs, ensuring high-quality, client-focused service delivery.
* Team Leadership & Mentorship: Support the development of junior team members, offering mentorship and guidance as required. You may also be asked to supervise and manage staff.
* Training & Development: Develop and deliver legal training to clients, enhancing their legal knowledge and self-sufficiency in relevant areas.
* Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to internal practice management systems, including time recording, billing, and compliance with SRA and Lexcel standards.
About You:
* Experience: Significant experience in planning law, with a strong track record of advising on complex development and highways projects, particularly in the public sector.
* Strong Communication Skills: The ability to negotiate effectively and build strong relationships with clients and third-party stakeholders.
* Leadership Abilities: Experience in mentoring, supervising, or managing legal staff.
* Proactive Mindset: A keen eye for identifying business development opportunities and expanding legal services.
* Qualifications: A qualified solicitor, legal executive, or equivalent, with a focus on planning law.
Previous experience working within local government or the public sector is highly desirable but not essential.
