Holiday/After School Club Group Leader - Job Description
As a group leader, you will be either in charge of a group of 15/20 children for the day or in charge of running a specific activity with different groups with an assistant instructor to support. You will be responsible for running the activities scheduled for the day and meeting the needs of your group. There will be a site leader present whom you will report to and take direction from.
Main Responsibilities:
* Communicate directly with the site leader.
* Help with site set up & pack down.
* Understand how the session plans will be run at your site each day with relevant timings.
* Pass on any marketing/information required to kids/parents.
* Communicate with your assistants:
* Give your assistant clear instructions on how to support the group.
* Set a good example and encourage assistants to learn, improve, and inspire to become good leaders in the future.
* Lead the planned activities for the day as set out in the provided session plans, introducing session objectives to the children. Explain the ground rules and instructions clearly, delivering this in a fun and constructive way.
* Always account for the children in your group and ensure their physical and emotional needs are met.
* Take responsibility for equipment on site – i.e., cleaning down your activity and setting it out for other groups to use after you.
* Manage the children’s energy throughout the day by being proactive in running games and keeping your group entertained.
* Proactively help support other children or staff where needed.
* Ensure the children are taking care of their environment and it is left as found (e.g., no pulling plants or damaging trees and wildlife).
* Read over session plans and role supporting documents before you arrive on site.
* Display Outdoors Project Uniform.
* Follow our ethos and company tone set out in our Policies and Procedures.
* Pass on key information such as medical or behavioural challenges throughout the day to fellow staff and your site leader so these can be forwarded to parents & carers if needed.
* Attend Outdoors Project training sessions.
* Help build and sustain a positive and friendly atmosphere with the school office and parents alike.
Read over and continue to familiarise yourself with key documents such as:

* Missing Child Procedures
* Emergency Action Plans
* Site Map
You understand where these are stored when on site and you are asking your site leader or line manager when unsure.
Meeting Physical Needs:
* Ensure children are appropriately clothed for the weather, they are eating and drinking throughout the day and using the toilet facilities.
* Ensure any medical needs such as trips and falls are dealt with immediately, performing first aid or alerting the site first aider as necessary. Fill out the required Outdoors Project Paperwork to pass to your site leader.
* Create a safe environment for children to play in and step in appropriately to control hazards or unsafe behaviour.
* Familiarise yourself with children’s medical needs and equipment such as allergies, dietary requirements, learning difficulties, and other physical challenges in which you can help provide an inclusive environment.
Meeting Emotional Needs:
* Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for children emotionally, ensuring children feel listened to, using age-appropriate language, respecting others, encouraging positive choices, and praising where appropriate.
* Familiarise yourself with your group's emotional or behavioural needs such as learning difficulties, ASD, and other such needs, ensuring you account for these when running activities and offering the appropriate level of support.
Job Types: Part-time, Freelance, Zero hours contract
Pay: £13.50 per hour
